Why play Minecraft?
Minecraft: Pocket Edition was published as an early alpha version on the Android Market in August 2011 for the Xperia Play. On October 8, 2011, it was made available for a variety of other compatible devices. On November 17, 2011, an iOS version of Minecraft was published. Shortly after Microsoft acquired Mojang, a port was made available for Windows Phones. The port focuses on the game’s creative building and primitive survival aspects, and does not include all of the features found in the PC version. Jens Bergensten stated on Twitter that the Pocket Edition of Minecraft is created in C++ rather than Java because iOS does not support Java.
In honour of Mojang’s acquisition by Microsoft, a port of Pocket Edition for Windows Phone 8.1 was released on December 10, 2014.
Microsoft announced on January 18, 2017, that the Windows Phone versions of Pocket Edition would no longer be supported. The entire version of Minecraft: Pocket Edition was launched on iOS, Android, and Windows Phone on December 19, 2016.
Minecraft: Bedrock Edition was released in 2017, replacing the Pocket Edition and allowing cross-platform play with Xbox One and Nintendo Switch variants.
